National Apprenticeship Week Toolkit

In recognition of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2020, the Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) would like to highlight your apprenticeship program by sharing brief videos from your apprentices or a story about your apprenticeship program.

Apprentice Spotlight 

Help us recognize your apprentice(s) for their hard work. 

VIDEO: Create a 1-2 minute video highlighting an apprentice in your program. 

Ask your apprentice the following questions: 
  • Introduce yourself (name, location, apprenticeship program) 
  • Why did you choose apprenticeship? 
  • How has the apprenticeship program benefited you?  
  • What are your goals for the future?  
  • What advice do you have for someone interested in apprenticeship? 

Video tips 

STORY: Send us a photo (or two) of your apprentice, either a head shot or in action. 

Have your apprentice type/write out the following questions: 
  • Introduce yourself (name, location, apprenticeship program) 
  • Why did you choose apprenticeship? 
  • How has the apprenticeship program benefited you?  
  • What are your goals for the future?  
  • What advice do you have for someone interested in apprenticeship?

Business Spotlight 

How have apprenticeships helped your workforce? Help us recognize your business and your apprenticeship program. 

VIDEO or STORY: Create a 2-3 minute video or type out your responses highlighting your apprenticeship program. 

Answer the following questions: 
  • Introduce yourself (name, business, location, program) 
  • Why did you decide to create an apprenticeship program? 
  • What advice do you have for other businesses?  
  • How can apprentices apply? Is there a timeline to apply?

How To Submit 

Email your spotlight stories and video by Friday, Oct. 30, to StartToday@state.sd.us. Be sure to include in the body of the email: 
  • Business name 
  • Location 
  • Point of contact 
  • Apprenticeship occupation(s) 
  • Correct spelling of apprentice(s)  

Video Tips 

  • Record each question as a separate video  
  • Keep each video clip to approximately :30 seconds  
  • Audio asking the question is not necessary  
  • Use tripod and microphone if possible  

Photo Tips 

  • Make sure photos are in focus and not blurry 
  • Take photos in landscape mode 
  • Take photos in a well-lit area 
  • Photos can be either a head shot or of your apprentice in action
